The aim is the preservation of individual freedoms and the opportunity to self-administer PD or HHD in the patient’s own environment. Moving the patient from the controlled environment of the dialysis center to their home removes boundaries and shifts accountability from healthcare provider to the patient. Despite the advantages of home dialysis, it is recognized that many patients are unable or unwilling to perform dialysis at home regardless of our efforts.
